Reports, correspondence, publications, and other material collected by the American YMCA's Foreign Work Department and World Service division, documenting the work of the Australian YMCA and its relationship with the American YMCA movement. The collection includes reports on and from YMCAs in various cities around Australia and Tasmania, as well as Papua New Guinea. In 1851, the YMCA movement arrived in America and in the same year, under the auspices of the London Association, a branch opened in Adelaide, Australia. In 1853 Melbourne and Sydney YMCAs appeared; followed by branches in Hobart in 1854 and Brisbane in 1875. In 1876, the first "Inter-Association Conference of the Australian YMCA" was conducted and in 1877 the "Inter-Colonial Convention of the Australian and New Zealand YMCA" was formed.
